Dbacks Spring Training

The smell of freshly cut grass and sunflower seeds is in the air. The weather’s getting nicer (in normal states that aren’t named Colorado) and baseball is finally back. Spring training games start this week, and opening day is April 4th in Miami to celebrate the opening of the brand new ballpark. But, I’m not focused on the MiamiĀ Marlins. I’m focused on the reigning NL West Champs, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Most Colorado fans hate me for being a Dbacks fan. I can’t help it. Despite being born in Boulder, I grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona — the center of the Cactus League for Spring Training. Growing up, I went to many spring training games, although most of them weren’t Dbacks games due to the Dbacks playing in Tucson. Spring Training is a much more relaxed atmosphere, featuring younger players and even grassy hills for the outfield bleachers. Spring Training gives a preview of what is to come in baseball this season. Hopefully the Dbacks can bounce back from their heartbreaking, extra-inning Game 5 loss in the NLDS to the Brewers. We’ll see stars, both new and old, come to the forefront. And hopefully we’ll see a new trophy in the Diamondbacks’ clubhouse come October.

On a totally different note, I wanted to show this artsy photo by Darron Cummings. What can I say, I’m a sucker for the artsy shots.

  1. I really really like artistic photography as well and love this bottom shot of the baseball player’s shadow. I also really like your opening line to this blog and the way you write!
