Pictures of the Year International, or POYi (I don’t know why the “i” gets less love than the other letters), is a program that has yearly competitions for awards in photojournalism. The winners of the various categories were announced starting on Feb. 8 up until the 28th. The pictures are obviously stunning, seeing as they are all winners in separate categories of the competition. One photographer from the Denver Post, Craig Walker, even won the photographer of the year in the newspaper category. Here are my two favorite shots of the sports photographer of the year, Donald Miralle:

World Record Holder and Olympic Champion Caesar Cielo of Brazil swims to win the Men’s 50M Freestyle in a New Pan American Games Record during Day Five of the XVI Pan American Games at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center on October 20, 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Bruno De Barros of Brazil competes in the Men’s 200M Semifinal during the Athletics Competition on Day Twelve of the XVI Pan American Games on October 26, 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
